Dark Chocolate For Weight loss

I am a huge, huge fan of chocolate. Any kind of chocolate, and anything that has chocolate in it, and anything made with chocolate! But, until recently, I never knew dark chocolate had so many health benefits, I just thought – WOW, this is so good!!!!

So, here are some of the better points about dark chocolate. Dark chocolate contains antioxidants, (many more than white or milk chocolate) which protect the body from aging that is caused by free radicals. There is almost eight times the amount of antioxidants in dark chocolate than in strawberries. Now, that alone is a good enough reason to eat dark chocolate!

Other benefits of dark chocolate, besides the taste, is that it contains serotonin, which acts as an anti-depressant. Dark chocolate can reduce blood pressure and can also lower cholesterol because flavonoids, an active member in dark chocolate, can help stop cholesterol from forming in your blood vessels that can lead to clogged arteries.

There are three different types of fat contained in dark chocolate. One is a monounsaturated fat that is also found in olive oil, the second doesn’t have an effect on cholesterol, and the third one can raise your cholesterol. So, actually only one part of the fat in dark chocolate is not so good for you. But, keep in mind, a small bar of dark chocolate each day can help your cardiovascular system and heart function well.

Now, to benefit with weight loss from eating dark chocolate, you could eat a bar a day, (1.45 oz.) which would be about 228 calories. Just think of how much better it is for your body to have 228 calories from dark chocolate rather than 228 calories from junk food that doesn’t have all the health benefits of dark chocolate. Also, be sure to eat just the pure dark chocolate, not the ones with caramel, nougat, or other fillings that will add to the fat content and calories.

There you have it! You can stop feeling guilty when you eat a dark chocolate bar. There are many ways to enjoy eating dark chocolate besides eating it by itself….try putting a bar of dark chocolate into the blender with strawberries, or bananas. Use low-fat milk and make a delicious, healthy smoothie. Having a bit of dark chocolate on the side with a healthy breakfast is a great way to start your day. For a snack or appetizer, try some shredded dark chocolate with fruit, or my favorite, melted dark chocolate to use for dipping strawberries in!
